Minimum Load

Low loads on a ball bearing, especially with high rotation speeds or high accelerations, could cause a sliding movement between the balls and raceway, leading to a reduction in bearing life. To achieve a non-slip operation, the following minimum ball bearing load is required:

Formula 12

If it is not possible to change the load, a bearing with a smaller basic dynamic load rating should be selected and/or a special grease with lower viscosity should be used.

Starting and Running Torque

CW Bearing has its own friction torque testers to measure the bearing starting torque at different temperatures. For our customers, we can also measure the bearing running torque at different rotation speeds for different loads and different temperatures. Please contact our technical department to get your customdesigned bearing torque measurements.

Reduction of Bearing Radial Clearance

Reduction in Bearing Radial Clearance Due to Interference Fit

When selecting the fit tolerances for shaft and housing fit, you should note that an interference fit causes a reduction of bearing radial clearance.

Contraction of Outer Ring
When the bearing outer ring is pressed into a housing with an interference fit, the radial clearance of the bearing is reduced by as much as the outer ring raceway diameter is contracted. This radial clearance reduction can be calculated.

Expansion of Inner Ring
When the inner ring is pressed onto a shaft with an interference fit, the bearing radial clearance is reduced by as much as the inner ring raceway diameter expands. This radial clearance reduction can be calculated.

For a detailed calculation please ask for our catalogue.
